A Holiday Gift: Provision Theater
By Laurie Higgins   |   11.20.12
image_pdfimage_printThere’s very little we at IFI can do to repay our many supporters for your prayers, financial gifts, political action, and encouraging words. After a recent theater outing in Chicago, I realized there is something small I can do to...
Higgins Responds to Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s “Priorities”
By Laurie Higgins   |   11.17.12
Mayor Rahm Emanuel, with his finger ever on the pulse of "progressives"—I mean, Chicagoans—has discerned that two of the top three problems facing the city are the absence of casinos and legalized “same-sex marriage.” The city’s failing schools, gang activity, murder rate, debt, unemployment, poverty, family breakdown, child abuse, and drug use pale in significance when compared to the absence of casinos. Perhaps Mayor Emanuel sees casinos as the solution to all those problems.
East Aurora High School Troubling “Transgender” Policy Update
By Laurie Higgins   |   11.13.12
image_pdfimage_printThe East Aurora High School Board of Education recently passed a policy that would have permitted gender-confused students to use the restrooms and locker rooms designated for those of the opposite sex (i.e., of the sex that these students wish...
Chicago Tribune Celebrates Genderless “Marriage”
By Laurie Higgins   |   11.12.12
image_pdfimage_printI had other plans for today until I read the Chicago Tribune editorial that ebulliently celebrates the rejection in four states of the central defining feature of marriage—sexual complementarity. In a display of astonishing hubris, the Trib editorial board has...
Andrew Marin at Park Community Church
By Laurie Higgins   |   11.08.12
image_pdfimage_printAndrew Marin, the controversial founder and president of the Marin Foundation, is speaking next week at Park Community Church in Chicago. This is surprising in that from its website Park Community appears to be a theologically orthodox church. Marin promotes...

image_pdfimage_printThe Southern Poverty Law Center’s (SPLC) educational arm Teaching Tolerance created yet another school event intended in part to normalize homosexuality and gender confusion. The SPLC claims that 2,800 schools across the country participated in this event, which is called...
Richard Mourdock, the Problem of Evil, and God’s Sovereignty
By Laurie Higgins   |   10.24.12
image_pdfimage_printAnother conservative has made another inept comment regarding rape. I am referring to this comment from Indiana Republican U.S. Senate candidate Richard Mourdock in response to a question regarding his views on abortion: Life is that gift from God. I...

By Laurie Higgins   |   10.20.12

By Laurie Higgins   |   10.19.12
image_pdfimage_printOn Wednesday, Erika Wurst, reporter for the Sun Times Beacon-News wrote an article about East Aurora High School’s recently adopted policy on gender confusion. In it Wurst quoted a “suburban high school math teacher” who blogged favorably about the policy,...

By Laurie Higgins   |   10.16.12
image_pdfimage_printAn outrageous and ignorant decision by the East Aurora High School Board of Education points to the increasingly compelling need for parents to pull their kids out of public schools if possible. According to the Sun Times Beacon-News, East Aurora...
ACLU Attacks Father-Daughter Dances: Why and Does it Matter?
By Laurie Higgins   |   10.09.12
image_pdfimage_printIt’s nigh unto impossible to stop teachers from showing films with egregiously obscene language and depictions of sodomy, masturbation, and pedophilic fantasies in public schools, but when the gender/sexuality deconstructionists—aka “progressives”—want father-daughter dances gone, in the blink of a blinkered...
Chicago Librarian Says Kids Should Read Anything They Want
By Laurie Higgins   |   10.02.12
image_pdfimage_printWords to describe librarians who eagerly promote the American Library Association’s “Banned Books Week,” of which we are in the midst, include sanctimonious, condescending, dishonest, hypocritical, and alarmist. Many, perhaps most, of the books that parents express concerns over are...
Lessons All Communities Can Learn from the Hinsdale South Film Class Debacle
By Laurie Higgins   |   09.18.12
Many teachers seek to retain almost absolute autonomy when it comes to curricula. They are presumptuous and elitist in their attitude about their own “expertise,” parents’ rights, curricula, and their autonomy. Yes, they run their text selections by their department chairs, but that’s often a mere formality. It is not uncommon for department chairs to sign off on novels, plays, or films that they have not read or seen. In addition...
Teen Atheist, Friendly Atheist, and Accuracy
By Laurie Higgins   |   09.17.12
Today, an unusual number of atheists from around the country have used our Take Action system to voice their support to those schools that invited teen atheist Jessica Ahlquist to speak on constitutional issues. Since our typical audience is not composed of atheists, I suspected Hemant Mehta, the “Friendly Atheist,” and Neuqua Valley High School math teacher might be behind their efforts. Surprise, surprise, Mehta has posted yet another piece that misses, obscures, or twists the central points of my article.
