Equip Us to Fight for You!

Two weeks ago, I announced the kick-off of our End-of-Year Matching Challenge. Any donation IFI receives until December 31st-up to $55,000-will be matched by a group of generous benefactors.  Our goal is to raise $110,000 or more this month!

There are just a few weeks left in this End-of-Year Campaign. The good news is, we have raised a little more than half of our goal so far! The bad news is, we still have a way to go to meet the challenge.

Roughly one quarter of our annual operating expenses depend on the success of this campaign!

Traditionally, the last few weeks of the year are when many of you make your most generous annual gift to the fight for faith and family here in our home state. And to those of you who have already contributed to the End-of-Year Campaign, we cannot thank you enough!  Many IFI supporters share our excitement about the matching challenge and want to make sure we continue strong into 2016. Your concern for our success means a lot to us.

Our mission at Illinois Family Institute is to advance biblical truth and Judeo-Christian values in the public square, and in doing so, help bring Illinois back to a state in which religious liberty flourishes, families prosper and every human life is valued. Your support by the end of the year will ensure that we have the resources necessary to continue doing this important work in 2016.

Any donation received by (or postmarked on) December 31st will be matched. If you contribute $50 this month, IFI will receive $100, if you give $1,000 we will receive $2,000 and so forth. New sustaining partners (monthly donors) will have their contributions matched for the first year, if pledged by December 31st.

No amount, whether a monthly or one-time gift, is too small or too large. We appreciate all of your donations more than we can possibly say.

May the Lord bless you and your family during this holy season. And thank you for helping Illinois’ leading pro-family organization continue the fight for faith and family in our deeply troubled state!

Please partner with us and make a tax-deductible gift today.

May God bless you and your family this Christmas season.

Sincerely,

David E. Smith
Executive Director

Your Chance to Make A Difference

In my last article I talked about being sifted like grains of wheat.  I invited you to be as one of the donor “grains” from the email “chaff.”

We are all overwhelmed by media.  Nobody has time to consider even a small portion of what hits them through the day in their email and on social networks, etc.  It’s physically impossible to keep up with it all.

But you’ve already done a bit of sifting.  You are on our email list because you cared enough to be in touch with us.  You are reading this email because you’ve decided that IFI is sustaining food for a starving culture.  You know that we are grain.  We aren’t chaff.

I need you to be part of our “food chain.”  We bring the truth about human sexuality, family formation and marriage to a starving body politic.  Without you sustaining us, we won’t be able to do it in 2016.  I need you to become or continue to be a sustaining ally of IFI.

Will you help?

It’s easy, and we need your help this month to help us meet (or surpass?) the matching challenge. You can do that by investing in the work and ministry of IFI today.

Your tax-deductible gift is essential if we hope to reach our goal of raising a total of $110,000 by December 31st.

Sifting Wheat

“Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.”
~Luke 22:21-32

Things haven’t changed that much in the past 2000 years.  Jesus warned Simon Peter, and prayed for Simon Peter.  He could be saying it to me … or you.

It is very clear to me, we are being thrown into the air like grains of wheat.  As our culture’s reliance on Christianity and the Bible continues to weaken we can expect the intensity of the sifting to increase.  The cloud of lies, the chaff, will thicken.  But the grains of truth are there, settling out as the lies are blown away.

I need you to help IFI as we work to educate, warn, exhort and even chastise the body of Christ here in the great state of Illinois.  It is vital that we recognize Satan’s tactics and turn away from the lies he is trying to sell us.  We need to work together for the sake of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

As you know I’m trying to raise a total of $110,000 dollars this month for IFI.  Thankfully, a group of great supporters have issued a matching challenge of fifty-five thousand dollars to help reach our goal. But I need your help to reach our goal!

Email reminds me of chaff.  I’m throwing this message to almost twenty thousand of our subscribers, believing that there are enough “grains” to carry us to victory by the end of the month.

Will you be one of my donor “grains” right now?  It’s easy.  We’ve gone to great lengths to make our online donation functionality easy to use.  Click HERE to make a tax-deductible donation to this critical campaign right now.

We simply cannot do this without your participation!  Any amount brings us that much closer to our goal.

Not Giving To Your Alma Mater

On our website last week, Dennis Prager concluded a column regarding the collapse of America’s University system by writing:

And there may be worse to come. There is little that produces violence as surely as does a victim mentality.

At this time, if you donate money to an American university, you are doing much worse than wasting your money. You are subsidizing the most anti-liberal, anti-American institution in America.

Many good Christian people are rightfully loyal to their alma mater.  They express their loyalty through year end giving.  Maybe you have done so in the past.

Given what is happening to America’s academic culture, how about NOT doing it this year.  Instead, make a generous donation to IFI.  Help me collect every penny of the year-end challenge I announced the other day.  That’s right.  A group of dedicated IFI supporters have issued a $55 thousand matching challenge to help equip us for battles we face in 2016!  The trick is that we need to raise this by the end of the year. And you donations are doubled!  What a blessing!

I plan on reporting in with you by email a couple times a week this month to let you know about my progress.

Would you pray for me and my team as we undertake this end-of-year fund raising task?  Pray that God moves in the hearts of his people to make this successful.

In the meantime click through to that Prager column.  Let your alma mater know that you donated to IFI instead of them this year because IFI is doing what they should be doing — upholding the high ideals of God’s gospel, marriage, family, truth and virtue!

Click HERE to donate online, or if you prefer, call the IFI office at (708) 781-9328.  Help us reach our goal of raising $110,000 by the end of this year!

End-of-Year Matching Challenge

I am very pleased to announce a challenge match of $55,000. Between now and the end of the year, you can help us raise $110,000!

As we approach the end of 2015 and reflect on a year of challenges and rewards, I  thank God for all his mercies and blessings. We have much to be grateful for.

Despite relentless attacks on marriage and family, we know that God is at work in our lives, in our communities, and in His church. I am so very grateful to have all of you as our partners in this fight.

I am grateful that we in America still have significant liberties that allow us to engage the culture with the truth of the Gospel, marriage, family, decency, and the sanctity of life.

I am grateful for men, women, and organizations that are committed to being salt and light in a desperately lost culture.

I am grateful that many of my Illinois neighbors are willing to stand up and speak out to their lawmakers and school board members.

I am grateful for and inspired by the thousands of resolute Christians in Illinois who do not succumb to despair or fear.

I am grateful for the IFI Team, the many volunteers, and consistent financial supporters who provide us with the resources to accomplish many great things for the body of Christ.

However, the books on 2015 are almost closed; and I need to ask you to stand with us in 2016.  Please take advantage of this challenge to double the impact of your donation today!  Donate online today!

There will be tremendous opportunities for continued engagement, influence and real change next year.

God has placed Christians who serve in wedding-related businesses and in public schools on the cultural frontlines, and all those who love truth—including IFI—are called to come alongside them.

More attacks on sexual truth are coming via school policies regarding gender-confusion and the oppressive and deceitfully-named Equality Act. We must stand boldly and unwaveringly for truth and against evil, no matter the cost.

And this past year, the growth of pro-life activism exploded as a result of a series of undercover videos. We must not allow ourselves to slip into moral lethargy during 2016.  IFI will continue to call on Governor Bruce Rauner to defund Planned Parenthood on the state level. (#ILDefundPP)

It is only through your support that we are able to work tirelessly to advance pro-family views. We must continue to stand up to the attacks on our religious liberty, speech rights, parental rights, and privacy rights.

The challenges facing Illinois are serious. Untangling the mess our feckless policy-makers have put us in will be difficult, and we have no reason to expect that the attacks against the fundamental truths concerning life, marriage, faith, decency, and the natural family will cease or diminish.

It is clear that IFI will matter more than ever in 2016—to life, marriage and family, decency and religious freedom in the Land of Lincoln. We need your support all the more so!

In my role as IFI’s executive director for almost ten years now, I have been humbled and amazed by how God’s people have provided for this important work. Please know that stewardship of the dollars you give is of the utmost importance to me and our team, and we will continue to stand for our foundational values both now and in the years to come!

We appreciate all that you do and ask for your continued prayers and participation. Thank you for your support! We look forward to partnering with you in 2016 to stand courageously and winsomely for the values we share.

May God bless you during this Advent and Christmas season.

Sincerely,

David E. Smith

#GivingTuesday–Invest in the Next Generation

You’ve likely heard of “Black Friday” and “Cyber Monday,” but do you know about “Giving Tuesday”?

It was started in 2012 as a way of remembering that Thanksgiving isn’t about getting but about giving. You might say this four-year-old campaign is an anti-#gettingstufffriday or #materialismmonday movement.

Today,  I invite you to take part in this effort by supporting our Christian values through your support of the Illinois Family Institute, which works  diligently to advance politically-incorrect truth. It is a wonderful opportunity to help us protect children, families, and religious freedom.

As we wrap up the 2015 Thanksgiving weekend, I would ask you to consider giving #4Families on #GivingTuesday.

Donate now buttonWith your support, we will continue our efforts to uphold marriage, family, life and liberty in the Land of Lincoln.  With your help, IFI can keep our efforts strong.  And the good news is, donations to IFI are tax deductible!

If you’d rather mail in a donation, please send it to:

IFI Special Event In Homer Glen on September 30th

Tomorrow night, the Illinois Family Institute will be hosting a special event at Eagle Rock Community Church in Homer Glen. Our speaker is historian and Pastor Dan Fisher.

Please join us as Pastor Dan brings to life our Christian heritage and forgotten lessons of our past.  Bring your friends, family and neighbors!

Eagle Rock Community Church

Homer Glen, IL 60491 (map)
7-9 PM

Pastor Dan and his fast-paced multi-media presentation will tell the true story of American pastors during the War for Independence who were a primary force  in the fight against tyranny and for liberty.  The  British hated these pastors and gave them the title of the “Black Robed Regiment.”  Pastor Dan illustrates how that, had it not been for the preachers’ strong stand in the 18th century, America would probably not have come to fruition.  He believes that if today’s preachers do not return to the faith and boldness of the Founders and begin to take the same stand as the preachers of the Revolution, America may not survive.

America is facing a crisis today much the same as the one faced  in 1776.  Pastor Dan says it is time for the preachers of America to respond to God’s call and fully engage in the war that is destroying our culture  and will eventually, if not checked, steal away our religious liberty and our opportunity to freely preach the Gospel.

Dan Fisher is the Senior Pastor of Trinity Baptist Church in Yukon, Oklahoma.  He is also a state representative from Oklahoma. He was one of the first original Pulpit Freedom Pastors.  He is on the boards of Bott Christian Radio Network, Reclaiming America for Christ, and Vision America, a ministry of evangelist Rick Scarborough based in Houston, Texas.  He is a published author and has a national speaking ministry..

Special Events: Pastors On the Front Lines

IFI Fall Banquet — THANK YOU!

2016 Presidential Straw Poll results_graphicAs promised, we are releasing the results of our presidential straw poll. To the right, you can see the results in which U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, Dr. Benjamin Carson and Carly Fiorina placed first, second and third.

Professor Tony Esolen and Pastor Doug Wilson were great blessings not only to us at IFI but also to so many others as we have learned from banquet attendees. We were encouraged by the unequivocal truths that Professor Esolen and Pastor Wilson expressed, and we were challenged to go out into the public square and do likewise.

We would love to hear more about your experience at the 2015 annual banquet as well.  ACTION: Please click HERE to access our short survey. Your feedback will help us make future banquets even better!

In an eloquent exposition, Professor Esolen challenged us to strive to create “men with chests,” which is a phrase from C.S. Lewis’ book The Abolition of Man. When societies embrace relativism and reject objective values, they cannot inculcate a love for that which is objectively good, true, and beautiful.

We were reminded by Pastor Wilson to be fearless in communicating truth, and not to be discouraged, because God is on his throne. He instructed us to “stop groveling, crawling, whimpering, trimming, explaining, apologizing, back-filling, and throat-sobbing,” and gave us permission to say “sweetly but firmly” to secularists, “arrange your own flowers.”

For those unable to attend, a recording of their remarkable presentations will be available shortly. We would encourage you to buy a copy or more to share with friends and family, perhaps even to watch together and discuss.

Again, thank you for supporting the work and ministry of Illinois Family Institute. Let’s continue to work together to boldly advance the truth. May God bless you.

Thanking Him for you,

David E. Smith
Executive Director

Upcoming IFI Banquet Speaker Douglas Wilson Explains What Scissors Are NOT For

After the 7th Planned Parenthood video exposé in which a former StemExpress phlebotomist described slicing through the face of a preborn, late-term baby boy in order to retrieve his brain intact, upcoming IFI Banquet speaker Douglas Wilson issued a call to arms against the treacherous, murderous Planned Parenthood whose taxpayer-funding makes Americans complicit in evil. Read Wilson’s words below, and then buy your tickets to the Sept. 18, 2015 Banquet to learn more about cultural engagement from the fearless and piquant truth-teller Douglas Wilson.

Not What Scissors Are For
Written by Douglas Wilson

The seventh Planned Parenthood video comes pretty close to Dante’s seventh circle. That’s not what scissors are for. But one of the first things I thought of after seeing it was the ninth circle, the circle dedicated to the treacherous. And that is what this is — treacherous, horrific, appalling, heinous, and cold as Hell.

Holly O’Donnell is the technician who worked for StemExpress, and who is testifying in the most recent of the sting videos. And, by the way, when I googled StemExpress to find out if it was two words or one, I was helpfully informed by Google through their suggested sub-directory searches that I can still buy fetal liver if I want, and at the very end of this macabre list was the “wish list” option. What do I wish they could put in my shopping cart for me?

The fact that Planned Parenthood is being evil, and is committing indecencies that are beyond vile, does not mean that they are guilty of every evil. They are murderous, but that does not make them guilty of every murder. The first videos were damning because we could see what the abortionists were doing directly, we could hear them talking about it themselves.

But one of the earlier videos relying on the testimony of O’Donnell was not like that. We heard her saying what other people were doing in the other room. This was an allegation of a great evil, but there was no independent corroboration. This was just one witness.

The fact that Planned Parenthood has forgotten the rule of justice does not mean that those of us who hate what they are doing are allowed to forget it also. And so as I listened to O’Donnell’s earlier testimony, I adopted a wait-and-see approach. I knew there were more videos coming, and I wanted to see if there was going to be corroboration of what she was saying. This video put all those concerns to rest.

This is because what O’Donnell is giving us here is a confession. She is not telling what other people are doing, and expecting us to take the word of one witness for it. She is telling us what she did. And she is doing it in a context where her confession is entirely supported by the surrounding evidence. And so the answer is yes — America is a place where some people do this, other people give them a ton of money to help them do it, and then other people vote the ghoul-enablers to the U.S. Senate. We the people, incidentally, are that last group of “other people.”

If there is to be any hope of dismantling the fabric of lies that have enabled us to become the nation that does these things, and then impudently refuses to stop funding it, it would seem that such hope has to be found in the current moment.

If you took all the skulls of all the babies aborted since Roe and set them side by side, that mournful line would reach from the Atlantic to the Pacific, and probably part way back. And that line would tell you everything you need to know about our spiritual condition. We are a wreck — and the only way out for such wrecks is to repent and call upon the Lord who bled on the cross and rose from the dead. No other way.

If not now, when? If not when confronted by such appalling constitutionalities, what would it take? Abortion is evil, and we are an abortion nation.

Upcoming IFI Banquet Speaker Anthony Esolen Describes Our Unreal Nation

Bold, wise, and eloquent, IFI Banquet speaker Anthony Esolen indicts the murderous madness that is sucking the life out of America. Read his words below, and then buy your tickets for our upcoming banquet to learn how to respond to the body and soul-destroying darkness that grips our nation.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Unreal Nation
Written by Anthony Esolen
I live in a country that gave birth to an organization conceived in lies and dedicated for the purpose of murder. It is called, with a wry irony that escapes us, “Planned Parenthood.” If you are a young woman and you go to “Planned Parenthood” and say, “I am with child, and I need help to bear it and to care for it, because its father and I are not married, and I am poor,” the people at “Planned Parenthood” will not assist you one bit. They will not give you food or clothing for the baby. They will not put you in touch with people who open their homes to unwed mothers. They at “Planned Parenthood” will do nothing for your parenthood at all.
They will kill the baby in your womb, that they will, and make a nifty living from it. We now learn that they have studied at the Josef Mengele Institute of Medicine, with internship at the local junkyard. They dismember babies with especial care, so as to trade in their brains, transmissions, livers, pistons, hearts, pumps, flesh, upholstery, kidneys, and catalytic converters. “It’s a blob,” they say, when they are before the cameras, or when they are persuading the nervous mother to go ahead with what everybody knows is a lie. “It’s a boy!” they say, as they see his cute little boy-parts in cute little isolation on a glass dish.
Most of the media, that vast windowless Ministry of Truth, ignore the lies. Why not? The man who runs the news agency rocks the bedsprings with the woman at the foundation that funnels a half a million dollars to the liars. They funnel that money because they are concerned about the poor, in the way that their pricy lawn specialists are concerned about weeds.
I live in a nation whose form of government is predicated upon a trust in the intelligence and the good sense of ordinary people, to accomplish the ordinary ends of life for themselves, their children, and their neighbors.
Therefore all oversight of local schools has been snatched from them; sweet and community-building customs have been discarded or suppressed; and children are taught to despise what their forefathers believed and said and did, or rather they never really learn what they believed, they never hear what they said, the worst construction is placed upon what they did, and sins they never committed at all are attributed to them, so as to clear the way for the new and improved—toothpaste, elections, deodorant, marriage.
More than a hundred years ago, in my nation, teachers who breathed the true air of democracy wished to bring to ordinary people the best of a classical education…. nowadays professors at Princeton and Yale scoff at the very idea of greatness. You are far more likely at Princeton to take a course in tawdry novels for teens than in Shakespeare.
There is nothing so stupid (a woman walking around with a mattress on her head, to protest rape), so fatuous (“poetry” found by rearranging words on the cover of a pack of matches), so nasty (a portrait of the pope, made of rubbers), and so perverse (any current television show), that cannot find its way into the august halls of education, that fraud of the age, that mechanism for making the wealthy as ambitious and soulless as possible, and keeping the poor as dependent and ignorant as possible.
In my nation we deny truths that lie in front of our eyes. Any fool can figure out that a man is not a woman, a cesspool is not a womb, a drug that thwarts the natural action of an organ is not medicine, an orphan is not a privileged member of an alternative family, pictures of people doing vile things are not the same as speech, and a law whose substance no one can know (because it is too vast, or vague, or incomprehensible) or rely upon (because it is subject to the caprice of inventive judges) is not a law at all. Any fool; but we are not any fool, just as Michelangelo was not any artist. We have judges who legislate, legislators who defer to bureaucrats and judges, and executives who do what they will. We call it “democracy” because the technology of elections is still in place, a monstrous Rube Goldberg array of machines, fed by thousands of polls and billions of dollars, cranked and kicked and oiled and fueled by a swarm of parasites, all to spit out a president whose platitudes are as flat as Kansas, with never a tornado-tossed house to fall upon the Great Leader’s head and set the Munchkins free.
We have “Boy” Scout leaders who don’t know the meaning of the word “boy,” we have physicians helping people kill themselves, we have priests turned atheists as did Eli’s sons, we have a Common Core of emptiness; even our madness has gone mad….
