Chicago Riots: Mayor Lightfoot and Police Superintendent Brown

Overt, organized violent riots over the weekend escalated in such a way that the governors in twenty-seven states thought it was necessary to activate the national guard to augment local police efforts. In Illinois, these riots were not limited to downtown Chicago, but was spilling over into various City neighborhoods and suburbs like Arlington Heights, Richton Park, Calumet City, Tinley Park, Riverside, Orland Park, Blue Isalnd and Lansing. In Dolton rioters thought it was a good idea to throw a brick through the window of Christ Oasis church.

Other large municipalities also saw similar violence, including Aurora, Rockford, Waukegan, Champaign, Joliet, Springfield and Peoria,

Peaceful protests, which there were a few, were greatly overshadowed by wall-to-wall news coverage of extreme violence, vandalism, looting and arson locally and in cities across the nation. In Washington D.C., “the church of the presidents” was set on fire by godless insurgents. The damage to St. John’s Church (est. 1816) could be seen symbolically of how our culture has turned its back on God. Furthermore, it isn’t a stretch to suggest that God has lifted His hand of protection in response to our rebellion and indifference to His precepts.

While many of us were thinking about the coordination of these attacks, I was somewhat surprised to hear Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot and Police Superintendent David Brown confirm these suspicions. Listen to their remarks:
