U.S. Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) questioned the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) during a House Judiciary Committee hearing examining the organization’s controversial “hate map,” its influence, and its treatment of conservative and faith-based organizations.

Roy pressed SPLC leadership over its decision to continue labeling groups like Family Research Council, Focus on the Family, and Turning Point USA as “hate groups,” despite concerns that such labels have contributed to real-world consequences, including threats, violence, censorship, and deplatforming.

The exchange also focused on allegations of political bias, inconsistent standards, religious liberty concerns, and whether Americans who hold traditional views on faith, family, sexuality, and public policy are being unfairly targeted as extremists.
