Did You Know?
On August 9, 2019, Governor J.B. Pritzker signed Illinois House Bill 246 into law. It states that as of this coming July 1st, “In public schools only, the teaching of History shall include the study of the roles and contributions of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in the history of this country and this state.”
“No pupils shall be graduated from the eighth grade of any public school unless he or she has received such instruction in the History of the United States and gives evidence of having a comprehensive knowledge thereof.”
- This law mandates the above requirements for children in grades K-8
- Current text resources that do not comply MUST be replaced at taxpayer’s expense
- There is NO OPT-OUT provision in this law
- Children grades K-8 must learn from the new texts and be tested on said content
- There is a newly forming Community Organization to address this issue and others
Parents & Taxpayers Organization 452-477
Inform. Deliberate. Advise.
PTO 452-477 is a grassroots community organization that gives parents and other taxpayers in Oak Forest and Tinley Park a collective voice in determining how this law gets implemented. Our children are the most precious assets we have as a community. We cannot let legislators in Springfield decide the needs of our community. Let’s TOGETHER bring common sense to School District decision-making.
