The most dangerous threats to our religious freedoms may be the permanent federal bureaucracy. Did you know that during the GOP’s efforts to elect a new House Speaker, federal bureaucrats refused even to take calls from newly elected Congressmen (or their staff), because none had yet been sworn in? Or that the litigation challenging the Obamacare contraception mandate was to the rules generated, not by Congress, but by the federal agencies (HEW, Labor and the IRS) charged with enforcing it?
Typically, “progressives” push their radical agenda through federal legislation that is not only complex but that also typically empowers permanent federal bureaucracies to craft “rules” and “regulations” to enforce it. These rules and regulations may can even directly contradict and overturn the rules and regulations generated by a prior administration.
That is exactly what the Biden administration is attempting to do now, by rewriting the U. S. Food and Drug Agency’s regulation of the use of abortifacient drugs. Overturning 22 years of its own rules and regulations, that FDA just granted accelerated approval of such drugs as “treating serious or life-threatening illnesses.” But a pregnancy is not an “illness,” much less one that is “life threatening.” Can these abuses be stopped? And if so, how?
Our January 13, 2023, come hear our Forum Luncheon speaker, Erik Baptist, lead counsel in the “Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine v. FDA, et al.” abortifacient drug litigation, to understand the dire threat posed by these permanent federal bureaucracies, and how they can and must be stopped.
