February 2020 Prayer Alert
The 2020 session of the Illinois General Assembly is now underway in Springfield. Our state lawmakers are introducing new proposals, adding to the 6,000+ bills that were introduced in the first half of the session (2019). IFI’s top concern is stopping the effort to repeal the Parental Notice of Abortion Act. In a recent email, the anti-life Personal PAC told their supporters that their
…key goals in 2020 will be repealing dangerous anti-choice legislation and safeguarding reproductive rights for future generations. With that in mind, in the next few months, Personal PAC will be focused on:
- Repealing the Parental Notice
Fair Maps Could Be a Solution for Illinois
Former State Representative Peter Breen (R-Lombard) has two words for his fellow Illinoisans, “Fair Maps.” Fair Maps is an effort to break the hold Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan (D-Chicago) has on the state’s election map.
On the website FairMapsIllinois.com, Breen explains, “If you despair over the future of Illinois… if you’re frustrated about the stranglehold of a corrupt political machine over Illinois politics… if you worry about whether your friends and family—and even you yourself—will be able to make a home in Illinois in the years to come… then this message is just for you.”
Fair Maps is …
More Anti-Family Legislation Approved by State Lawmakers
Pray, Pray, Pray & Call, Call, Call
As you may know, our state lawmakers returned to the Capitol late Sunday afternoon to begin their last week of regular session, which is scheduled to end on Friday, May 31st. At 6:08 PM, SB 25 (House Amendment 1) was posted and then scheduled for a hearing at 7:08 PM. This proposal, sponsored by State Representative Kelly Cassidy (D-Chicago) is very similar to the extreme abortion expansion legislation filed by her earlier this year.
It should be noted that this bill was posted and scheduled in the absolute minimum amount of time required to be considered in the …
End-of-Session Prayer Alert
Illinois State lawmakers are entering into the last month of the 2019 Spring Session. They have much on their legislative agenda, including approving a budget for the next fiscal year, which begins on July 1st. The Illinois State Constitution requires that the regular legislative session end on May 31st.
As you know, Illinois needs strong, honest and wise leadership now more than ever. Christians in the state of Illinois must commit to praying for our state leaders, their staff, and their family as they wrestle with the tough issues of the day. So, that is our call to …
New Year Call to Prayer
As we begin 2019–with new federal lawmakers being sworn in to office last week in Washington D.C. and new state lawmakers being sworn into office this week–it is vital that we are intentional about praying for those in authority. Although we may disagree with the political philosophy of many of our elected officials, we must not neglect God’s instruction to pray for them (1 Timothy 2:1-3) or ignore the power of prayer to change hearts and minds (Proverbs 21:1; James 5:16).
It is important to regularly appeal to God for the well-being of our state and nation. It is essential …
A New Push For Legal Weed
Just hours after after his election-night victory speech, Governor-elect J.B. Pritzker has been making the rounds with Chicago media, talking up plans to make marijuana a priority in Illinois, telling one news outlet that it is “something we can work on nearly right away.”
Apparently Pritzker’s top priorities do not include tackling issues like job creation, inner city violence, opioid addiction, a shrinking population, public pension reform, or education reform. Pritzker apparently believes the inaccessibility of recreational pot is among Illinois’ most pressing problems. And the liberal media is all too willing to assist by advancing pro-pot talking points about …

Urgent – Tax Dollars for Abortion?
After this week’s election upset, which will give Republicans a net gain of four seats in the Illinois House next session, Speaker Michael Madigan (D-Chicago) moved HB 4013 to third reading. This means it can be called for a vote at any time during the Lame Duck Veto Session (Nov. 15, 16, 17, 29, 30 and Dec. 1) – when retiring or defeated lawmakers return to address unfinished business and are no longer accountable to the voters.
HB 4013 is a terrible big government and pro-abortion bill and tops our list of concerns as we go into the final stretch …
Rights of Conscience on the Operating Table in Springfield
The regular session of the Illinois General Assembly ended on May 31st, but with lawmakers at an impasse over the state budget, they could be meeting in overtime sessions well into the summer. Along with debate over a spending plan, workman’s compensation and the public sector pension crisis will keep lawmakers busy in Springfield for at least several more weeks. According IFI sources, Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan (D-Chicago) has told state representatives that the Illinois House will be meeting every Tuesday throughout the month of June, and even into July.
Lawmakers could use their extra time in the State …
Nine Reasons to Reject Equal Rights Amendment
On May 22, 2014, the Illinois Senate voted 39 to 11 to pass SJRCA 75, the dangerous Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), in an effort to amend the U.S. Constitution to say: “Equality of rights under law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any State on account of sex.”
This legislation is now in the Illinois House for consideration and debate. State Representative Lou Lang (D-Skokie) is the chief sponsor. Although the session has adjourned, SJRCA 75 could move in the November veto session, after the November election. It’s critical that while state reps are
