Every Nation Will Give An Account Before the Lord

Dr. Alberth Mohler, in his Daily Briefing commentary, reflects on a statement made by President Donald Trump suggesting that his only moral limit is his own mind. Dr. Mohler warns that such reasoning is dangerous if applied broadly. While acknowledging the unique constitutional authority of the presidency and the context in which the statement was made, Dr. Mohler stresses that no individual is above moral judgment.

Power, even when concentrated in a single office, does not remove accountability before God.

From a Christian perspective, the idea that one’s own morality is the final authority is fundamentally flawed. Christians understand that they are not governed by personal judgment alone but are bound by a higher law—the law of God, revealed through both creation and Scripture. What might be asserted in a narrow political context becomes unacceptable as a general moral principle.

Therefore, Christians must reject the notion of self-defined moral limits and reaffirm their submission to God’s objective and transcendent moral authority.
